Update: US steps in on Britney Griner detainment in Russia

Congressman Colin Allred of the Foreign Affair Committee has taken the lead in getting Griner out of Russia. He has been speaking to her attorney in Russia. The arrest of the Phoenix Mercury center was first reported in American media last weekend, thos she had been held for weeks. This morning Congressman Allred appeared on CNN with an update.

Here is what we know:

- Britney is fine. He says he could disclose whether she is being held in a jail.

- She has been speaking to her family and NBA officials.

- Russia is violating international norms and based on their past pattern and current he does not trust them to keep their word.

- The U.S. is following a legal process he says that is taking longer than usual and to goal is not to get Griner's case embroiled in the geo-political conflict surrounding the Russia/Ukraine war.
