NC Rep. Madison Cawthorn accused of multiple ehtics violations, misconduct with same sex aide

(The Slice): Not only watchdog groups, but also peers are checking already embattled GOP Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-N.C.) for possible ethics violations.

Fellow GOPer Sen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., called on Congress to investigate Cawthorn this week over allegations that the freshman Congressman may have violated insider trading rules.

The allegations from government ethics groups stem from Cawthorn’s involvement with an anti-Biden crytocurrency. The "Let’s Go Brandon coin," is a cryptocurrency named for a phrase that mocks the president.

Tillis' call for a bipartisan investigation came as Cawthorn faces another new ethics complaint alleging that he’s involved in an inappropriate personal relationship with his scheduler and personal aide Stephen Smith. His conduct could be a violation of House rules.

The “Fire Madison Cawthorn” group filed a complaint with the Office of Congressional Ethics, the independent ethics watchdog, alleging the "personal relationship between them, separate and apart from the professional relationship of employer and employee." There were suggestive messages and screenshots of Venmo records that showed money being sent to Smith submitted into evidence. The accompanying messages were sexually suggestive, such as "Getting naked for me in Sweden," "The stuff we did in Amsterdam," and "The quickie at the airport" and "breaking and entering." It is also said that Smith lives with Cawthorn in North Carolina.

The pair is reportedly so close that Smith joined Cawthorn and his wife on their honeymoon in Dubai in April 2021. THe couple divorced 8 months later.

Earlier this year Cawthorn was the source of rumors about Hill lawmakers enaging in orgys and using cocaine. He admitted to House Minority leadeer Kevin McCarthy that he made up.

In addition, the partially paralyzed lawmaker was stopped at the Charlotte airport on April 26 after authorities found a loaded handgun in his bag. Cawthorn was issued a citation for possession of a dangerous weapon on city property and released. TSA has stopped the Congressman for bringing a gun to the airport before.

The North Caroline primary for the 11th District, which Cawthorn represents, is 3 weeks away.
