Herschel Walker calls himself 'not that smart' and projects weakness before upcoming debate agains

(THE SLICE): Former NFL great Herschel Walker's run for the U.S. Senate representing Georgia has been covered with lies and controversy as his public appearances continue to trouble to a celebrity driven politcal bid.

Next month the 60-year-old is scheduled to debate democratic opponent Sen. Raphael Warnock and said he expects to get enbarrassed facing a well-dressed, intelligent preacher as a contender. Leaning on the backing of Donald Trump, and a similar strategy, Walker secured the Republican nomination with 68% of the vote without participating in any previous debates.

Walker referred to himself as "a country boy" who's "not that smart" in a recent interview with the Savannah Morning News.

The political hopeful has lied about finishing college, the number of children he has and falsely claimed to have held a job that he never held. An ad running in Georgia accuses him of attempting to kill his ex-wife. The Republican Accountability Project, a political action committee run by anti-Trump conservatives released the ad. Morever, he is an inexperienced politician.

Some say he is attempting to get empathy from soutern voters who may be able to relate to the image he is conveying. However, with Mr. Walker's poor reputation proceeding him demonstratin he has the integrity to lead may prove to be the biggest challenge.

"I'm just waiting to show up and I will do my best," he said.

The Warnock v. Walker debate will take place in Savannah, GA on October 14.
